More about this wine from Isarco Valley, Alto Adige DOC, Italy
Since the 1100s, the Abbazia di Novacella monastery has been making wine high up in the mountains of Alto Adige on the Italian and Austrian border — and they have the 12th century papal wine ownership documents to prove it. The winery’s high altitude means cool nights and long growing seasons for their grapes which are grown both on their own land and sourced from organically-farmed vineyards nearby. One of their crown glories is their Müller Thurgau grape, a crossing between the Riesling and Madeleine Royale varietals, and you get to taste the impressive results in this heady and concentrated bottle of fruity goodness you should absolutely drink with mussels.
