More about this wine from Pays d'Hérault, France

Carignan (“care-in-yen”) goes by several names — Carignane in the US, Carignano in Italy, and Cariñena and Mazuelo in Spain, but that’s not the reason it might sound unfamiliar. The dark grape was once a leading global wine variety until its spotlight was seized by Merlot. If it didn’t recede into obscurity, then it was at least knocked off the list of common household wines.

The grape can be difficult to produce and quality bottles are not abundant across America's wine shops. This bottle is exactly how Carignan from the South of France should taste! This juicy wine has a beautiful cherry hue and was sourced from small parcel vineyards by hand, so only the best grapes of the bunch made the cut. The nose shows an abundance of intense red berry fruit and hints of vanilla flavors. The palate is soft, full-flavored with a smooth easy drinking finish. How to drink it

Pro Tip:

This vino loves summer tomatoes! It could easily pair with some delish red sauce pasta dishes, but we whipped up ourselves a decadent Tomato Pie.
