Around the Vinho Verde region of Portugal, from the sub-region of Sousa, the Arios winery made a wonderful white wine from granite soil-grown Loureiro. While not as well known outside of Portugal, this grape is extremely popular in its country of origin as well as Spain. The grape’s name, Loureiro, actually means “laurel” — so naturally this single varietal bottle has the essence of this flower, as well as other delectable fruits like like lychee, passion fruit and peach. This grape is really coming into its own right now, and if you’re a lover of fruitier-style whites, then this up-and-comer is going to knock your socks off.
